Caitlin Carroll
3rd yr PhD student – Matriculated 2017
Mentor(s): Shannon Macauley, PhD
Program: Neuroscience
Caitlin is a 3rd year Neuroscience PhD student in Dr. Shannon Macauley’s lab studying the interactions between metabolism, sleep, and Alzheimer’s disease in mouse models. Specifically, Caitlin is interested in understanding how peripheral metabolism impacts patterns in neuronal activity and sleep, both of which can feed-forward to alter progression of Alzheimer’s disease. By targeting early dysfunction in metabolism and sleep, we may be better able to disrupt pathogenic cycles in AD. Caitlin received her BA from Middlebury College in Vermont in 2017 before joining the Wake Forest Neuroscience program. In her free time she enjoys running, swimming, baking, and exploring North Carolina’s many mountains and breweries.
