Education Programs
2020 Summer program cancelled due to COVID-19
The Center for Precision Medicine offers a 9-week research intensive undergraduate summer internship. Faculty mentors include those studying human diseases such as heart disease, obesity, diabetes, and Alzheimer’s Disease. Summer interns will work with post-doctoral fellows, Ph.D. students, and technical staff in faculty laboratories on active research projects using laboratory and/or computational methods to address research questions. They will form a team with a High School intern and have the opportunity to teach them and work with them on research-related questions. In addition, students will attend weekly seminars presented by Center for Precision Medicine faculty on topics related to their summer research program. Summer interns will also learn about medical school and graduate school admission processes, and other career options.
“The Center for Precision Medicine Undergraduate Summer Internship Program not only exposed me to groundbreaking research across several cutting edge disciplines, but also provided the platform and techniques for a successful career in medical research. With my mentor designating so much of his time to my learning, I have gained a comprehensive skill set and knowledge of the medically relevant state of substance abuse research from a neurobiological perspective” (Alex H., intern 2018 ).
“The CPM Summer Internship allowed me to experience a new research environment in the Wake Forest community. The faculty at CPM are enthusiastic and passionate about their work. They were extremely helpful in my preparation for graduate school” (Taylor O., intern 2018).
