Member Highlights

Sarah Cilvik, MD, PhD Assistant Professor, Pediatrics – Neonatology Dr. Sarah Cilvik is a clinical neonatologist with an interest in studying the developmental origins of cardiovascular disease in a nonhuman primate model. She completed her MD and PhD (Developmental Biology) as part of the Medical Scientist Training Program at Washington University in St. Louis while studying the role of fibroblast growth factors in postnatal cardiac remodeling in a mouse model. She then moved on to residency in Pediatrics at the University of Utah, followed by fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at the University of Colorado. There she studied fetal physiology in a late preterm pregnant sheep model, examining the role that elevated fetal glucagon plays in fetal metabolism and nutritional status, in addition to placental function. At the completion of her fellowship in 2020, she accepted a position as Assistant Professor in Pediatrics-Neonatology at Wake Forest and is now working to establish a perinatal/pregnancy model in the Wake Forest Vervet Research colony to study long-term cardiovascular outcomes in the offspring from pregnancies with adverse intrauterine environments.
