Opportunity Fund Presentations Background: The strategic combination of Atrium Health and Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center presents a unique opportunity to invest in the research mission. One method for doing so is the creation of an Opportunity Fund that will support the recruitment of faculty to enhance the scientific capabilities of our Enterprise and propel us to become national leaders in these areas of study. In December 2021, we received 27 Letters of Intent for the Opportunity Fund. After a careful review, we invited 12 to submit full applications. We received 11 written applications (two groups chose to partner). Now, the 11 applicants will present their proposals to a review panel of esteemed colleagues over two sessions—April 8, 2022, from 1PM to 2:30PM and April 22, 2022, from 11AM to 1PM—and we are excited to welcome the research community from across the Enterprise to attend these virtual sessions and learn more about the exciting ideas brought forth by the applicants. Review Panel: Dr. Nichole Allred: Biochemistry Dr. Michelle Mielke: Epidemiology & Prevention Dr. Mike Brennan: Oral Medicine Dr. Derek Raghavan: Levine Cancer Institute Dr. Eric Donny: Physiology & Pharmacology Dr. Gary Rosenthal: Internal Medicine Dr. Stephen Kritchevsky: Gerontology & Geriatric Med.
