Announcements

The Center for Precision Medicine has face masks. The masks are 3-Ply 3D Cotton with adjustable ear loops and the CPM logo digitally printed on them. According to Dr. Greg Hawkins and Dr. Tim Howard they are one of the most comfortable masks they’ve worn to date. If you are interested in obtaining a mask, please contact Ginger Pate grpate@wakehealth.edu to arrange pick up.  We have 150 to give away, so it’s first-come-first-serve.  If the demand is high we will place another order.

Victoria Chan – a 2019 CPM summer intern in Dr. Andrew South’s lab, will be nominated by Dr. Marion Eppler for the Robert H. Wright Service Leadership Award. This most prestigious award sponsored by the ECU Alumni Association, recognizes the four top graduating seniors at Spring Commencement.

Welcome to Kip Zimmerman, PhD, Postdoctoral Fellow in the Olivier Lab. Kip Zimmerman recently joined the Olivier lab as a postdoc. Kip is a biostatistician with an interest in applying and developing statistical methods to identify genomic drivers of disease. He earned his doctorate in Molecular Genetics and Genomics from the Wake Forest Graduate School of Arts and Sciences in 2020 under the mentorship of Dr. Carl Langefeld. His dissertation primarily focused on hypothesis testing for differential gene expression in single-cell RNA-sequencing studies. As a postdoc in Dr. Olivier’s lab, Kip will focus on assembling computational pipelines for the analysis of proteomic and metabolomic data generated in the Olivier lab. In addition, he will concentrate on maturing statistical methods for integrating metabolomic data together proteomic and transcriptomic data in an effort to understand complex biological processes at more than one individual level of omics data. Welcome to the Center for Precision Medicine!

Graça Almeida-Porada, MD, PhD Professor, Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine Professor, Biomedical Engineering Professor, Hematology and Oncology Dr. Almeida-Porada’s research focuses on the development of cellular and gene delivery platforms to treat genetic and immune-mediated diseases. She is particularly interested in improving the outcome of stem cell transplantation and gene therapy in fetal and neonatal patients with genetic disorders, and in developing therapies for children with immune-mediated diseases. She is currently supported by NHLBI to investigate prenatal (R01) and post-natal (R01) therapies in Hemophilia A and to manufacture a cell and gene therapy platform to treat hemophilia A (U01). She is the Director of the Fetal Research and Therapy Center at Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine. She is the co-editor-in-chief of Current Stem Cell Reports and the co-founder of the International Fetal Transplantation and Immunology Society.
