The Center for Precision Medicine Undergraduate and high school student Internship allows students to participate in actual research projects conducted in the laboratory or computer facility of faculty members, and to experience first hand what it is like to work in an academic environment. This research experience is supplemented by activities tailored to the student interests (e.g. workshops and seminars) and by participation in regular scientific research seminars, laboratory meetings as well as social activities (weekly coffee breaks etc). All interns will present a poster and give a brief presentation about their research experience at the end of the program.
Intern Selection:
All applications are due on February 14, 2020. Selected candidates will be invited to participate in a phone interview prior to final decisions. We expect to make final decisions before March 18, 2020.
Faculty members of the Center for Precision Medicine will select students who will then be assigned a specific laboratory where they will conduct their research. The project selection will be based on faculty availability and expressed student interest.
Undergraduate student interns may have the opportunity to work in pairs with a high school intern during part of the program, allowing them to expand their own mentoring skills.
Students will have frequent interactions with other interns and opportunities to interact and socialize with students participating in the multiple summer research programs offered at Wake Forest Baptist Health.
Housing:
Housing will be available as needed on the Wake Forest University Campus (dorms) for a fee.
Location:
Faculty members work at several campus locations throughout Winston-Salem. Specific bus service is available regularly across all locations, including the Wake Forest University housing facilities.
